Dear Middlebridge Family,

Join the fun: The Middlebridge Marlins swim team welcomes all new and returning swimmers and encourages everyone to join in the fun and excitement.  It is open to all swimmers ages 6 to 18. The Marlins are part of the Montgomery County Swim League (MCSL) which has provided organized summer swim team competition for 50 years.  MCSL has over 7,000 swimmers on 86 teams in 15 divisions.  Our season will also include several fun activities.

MCSL: The Middlebridge Marlins Swim Team is a part of the Maryland County Swim League (MCSL).  Our swim team offers summer swim competition, coaching, and instruction for ages 5 to 18 and for all ability levels. The goal of our team is to provide every member an opportunity to experience a fun, family oriented summer swim experience, improve swimming skills, and compete in MCSL competitions.

MCSL has over 7,000 swimmers on 86 teams in 15 divisions.  Our season will also include several fun activities: Wacky raft nights (open to all residents) and the end of the season swim team banquet (for regular and mini-Marlins).

The Season: We will have a Parents’ meeting (and swimmers) sometime near the end of May; an announcement will be posted. Team practices begin Tuesday, May 31, and time trials will be held on June 11th.  The first “A” meet is on June 22nd.  We finish the season with the Divisional Championship meet on July 23rd.  Most weeks we swim “A” meets on Saturday mornings and “B” meets on Wednesday evenings.  The two levels of swimming allow swimmers of all abilities to compete. 

Coaches: Our coaches, Ryan and Matt, are both former Middlebridge swimmers and they are committed to improving your children's swimming skills and including them in the team's general positive and competitive team spirit. They will ensure that the time your children spend swimming with the Middlebridge team will be quality time.

Communication: Our most effective way of communication is now our Marlins listserv. If you are not on the listserv yet, please send an email to marlins@middlebridge.org. We will also use the www.Middlebridge.org web site again for Swim Team news and information.  We are also using an automated team management system called TeamUnify, which will help us with everything from communications, registration, and postings of swimmers times, to scheduling parent volunteer opportunities and options for purchasing swim apparel. 

Parent involvement is IMPERATIVE in running the meets, 25-30 people are required to run a meet.  Free training for officials is available through the MCSL league.
 

Mini Marlins

The Middlebridge Mini-Marlins is for kids ages 8 and under who are beginning swimmers!
 

The Mini-Marlins is a great way for children 8 and under to get started on the swim team. The goals for the Mini-Marlins are to:

• Get prepared for the swim team through practice and games
• Have fun and love swimming
• Feel a part of the Middlebridge Marlins with team spirit

*** Even though the pre-team will be instructed in proper swimming, it does not take the place of private or group swim lessons.  Children must be swimming without water wings! ***
